The Concept behind my Idea- ‘Frose’

After looking at elements of the natural world, I became mostly inspired by phenomenon’s in nature including the chlamydomonas nivalis (watermelon snow), which is the reaction of algae powder on snow that causes the snow to be pink in colour and become darker when pressure is applied. I was inspired by the colours and the texture of this particular phenomenon and decided to look at different snow formations. These included icicles, frozen flower buds, frozen bubbles, Icelandic emeralds, ice blossoms and penitentes.

All of the different snow formations were made up of different colours, shapes and textures, ranging from smooth, to sharp and emerald to pure white, which has lead to me incorporate different textures into my costume, hair and makeup design.

The image of the frozen flower buds inspired the idea of frozen beauty and I then looked at different images of snow and ice on flowers.

From these images, the concept of my idea formed and would now concentrate on the beautiful elements of nature being dangerous, as snow swathes over nature, killing it with the cold, icicles form into sharp cylinders and roses are equip with thorns. All of these elements of nature are seen for their beauty rather than how dangerous they can be.
