Once again, I turned to my favourite and most inspirational
designer of all time, Alexander McQueen when looking for fashion inspiration
for my idea.
I decided to look at Alexander McQueen as I am aware that he
was inspired by nature and experimented with many elements of nature including
animals, insects and weather.
The images I have collated below are pieces from different
cat walk shows that inspired me the most when thinking of a glamorous and
powerful snow theme.
From these images, I now know that I would like to
incorporate lace, a long train and white and silver tones in my final design.
I also looked at Australian fashion designer, Paul Vasileff of Paolo Sebastian's Fall/Winter 2016 collection, which was inspired by Slavic folktales of a winter empress- The Snow Maiden. He used snowflakes, folk embroideries and crystal embellishments alongside delicate lace, thick furs and muted tones to epitomize the feel of winter and create a powerful snow themed character.
I love the use of texture in these designs and think that the use of lace, embroidery and embellishments really do create the appearance of snow and ice on the material. I plan to use different textures in my final costume, hair and makeup designs to depict different types of snowy weather.
