Dolce & Gabbana 2010 Beauty Campaigns

The Dolce & Gabbana 2010 campaign, featuring Scarlett Johansson is still my favourite beauty ad campaign. Each look throughout the year is utterly beautiful and inspiring. The rich lip colours and flawless base, created by Pat McGrath are stunning. The A/W 2010 campaign (bottom left and above) features a strong dark shiny lip. I think the use of shine on the dark lip is very brave and takes the makeup to another dimension. Usually, a daring dark lip is matte but the gloss gives this makeup an edge. The subtle eye shades Pat McGrath teamed with this look are also beautiful and complement the lip. If I were to wear a daring dark lip, I would usually leave my eye makeup quite minimal, opting for a thin feline liner with mascara on the top lashes only. However, Pat’s use of subtle shimmer shades of brown and grey balances out the strong lip perfectly, giving this look a cold autumn midnight feel. This lip shade accompanied with the glossy shine oozes confidence. The soft tones in her eyebrows keep the base a beautiful footnote for the bolder lip and eye makeup.

Pat McGrath said of this look “We went all out with contrast, the kind of contrast that makes a real statement”. (Staff, 2010)  She used D&G cream lipstick in Amethyst and used the Ultra-Shine Lipgloss, also in Amethyst from the D&G "Evocative Beauty" autumn collection. 

The Marilyn Monroe inspired hair, created by Oribe has so much movement and body. It looks thick, lustrous and effortlessly glam. The volume of curls accentuates the strong makeup and really opens up her face, allowing the beautiful makeup to be seen but not being overshadowed by it. He also styled Scarlett's hair into this classic style for the D&G 2014 campaign. I researched how the legendary Oribe styled Scarlett's hair into this classic style. His website (Oribe.com) explained how

Get the Look:
1. Prep hair with Supershine Light and blow dry.
2. Use Imperméable and a 2-inch curling iron to set the hair. “It was the middle of summer and the humidity was very high,” Oribe noted. “Using Imperméable kept her hair frizz-free for the entire 22-hour shoot!”
3. Brush out the curls once they cool and pull hair into a big knot at the nape. 
4. Spray some Royal Blowout on your fingers and apply to the little pieces in front to add moisture and shine.
